Neo-Aristotelian Theory is the first formal method of rhetorical criticism. While using this theory, we are concerned with the authors use of the five canons and the three models of persuasion. The five canons of rhetoric are: invention, organization, style, memory, and delivery. The three models of persuasion are: ethos, pathos, and logos. As the critic, we analyze and asses the authors' use of each canon and the models of persuasion and its effectiveness by measuring the audiences reaction to the literature.

I was challenged to find a conspiracy theory and evaluate it using the Neo-Aristotelian Theory. Through this assignment I conducted primary research, evaluated messages in multiple forms, and created an effective written argument against the conspiracy to avoid vaccinations.

An example of this research method was provided, which can be viewed by clicking on the document image.

Examples of My Research

I have provided three examples of my research as well as a persuasive speech. Through these pieces of work you will be able to understand my writing style, have a primary example of my research skills, and see the quality of my written communication. In addition, you have an opportunity to evaluate my analysis and critique of messages in all forms as well as see the variety of topics I have researched.

As a student enrolled in a Buddhism course, I found myself questioning the Buddhist religion and its existence in modern society. After substantial research I concluded that Western Buddhism cannot follow the traditional teachings of Theravada or Mahayana Buddhism. Because western societies are more individualistic and promote consumer consumption, traditional Buddhism cannot survive. However, moderation is believed to be the key to end misery. If Western Buddhists follow the idea of the Middle Path through the concept of moderation and 'Dana,' they will be able to live in accordance with Buddha and his teachings.

With this assignment I focused my time on understanding the teachings of Buddha and the two types of Buddhism- Theravada and Mahayana. To obtain a complete understanding of Buddhism I dissected multiple Buddhist teachings and evaluated research on the lifestyle of Buddhist Monks. In addition, I critiqued the values and beliefs of western societies in order to conclude that Traditional Buddhism could survive in western societies only if the Middle Path and the idea of 'Dana' and moderation were closely followed.

Persuasive Speech

This persuasive speech urges individuals to get a full night sleep, consisting of 6 to 9 hours of sleep. It relates to the lifestyle of many college students through the use of examples and explains the negative implications of such habits. Primary research was conducted in order to support the claims made and help convince the listeners of the health risks associated with a long-term lack of sleep. Solutions to combat a lack of sleep were introduced and related to the undergraduate lifestyle with the hope of convincing the audience to sleep for 6 to 9 hours per night. Finally, the listeners were called to action when sleep deprivation and fatal car accidents were explained to have a cause-effect relationship.

Speeches require a unique writing format because the audience will audibly take in the information, changing its presentation. Persuasive speeches are especially tricky because they must have primary research to suppor the claim, a strong organization that will influence the listeners, and an effective argument that the audience can relate to and call them into action. While reading my speech, you will see how I effectively incorporated each aspect needed to make a persuasive speech successful.
